Here is a quote from a young teen that called a YFA shelter home:

“A parent is supposed to take care of you, feed you and make sure you are going to school and not getting into trouble.  My dad doesn’t do that for me. We have lived place to place and in the park.  We have stayed with his girlfriends until we couldn’t stay there any more.  We have slept in his car and not eaten every day.  I don’t have a lot of people I can count on, or ask for help.

I asked to come to RAP House, because I didn’t want to sleep on the ground any more, or get kicked out of another place.  I told the judge I needed to be here, so I can go to school and get back on track.  Since I have been here I have had a safe place to sleep, food to eat and people around me that care about me.  I can work on my future goals now because I am here. Thank you RAP House for being here for me.”
