On Sunday, September 21, 2014, Yoga Across America (YAA) will hold its annual yoga marathon fundraiser known as the YAA Challenge at the California Sate Capitol North Steps from 8-10 am. During the event, participants will commit to completing 108 Sun Salutations in a 2-hour “marathon” yoga class to raise money for YAA. As part of the challenge, participants will take donations from sponsors, 100% of which will go toward Yoga Across America programming. We are honored to be partnering this year with Sacramento Peace Day and will kick-off the Peace Day events with The YAA Challenge Fundraiser.
As the main fundraising event of the year, the YAA Challenge is critical to sustaining YAA’s health outreach initiatives. Additionally, the event provides a venue for building awareness of preventative health care across the US.
Our mission is to empower students and communities through yoga. By sharing these practices, our students are discovering that anything is possible. The lessons they learn on their yoga mats are playing out in their everyday lives. On their yoga mats, students make a deep connection with their body, mind and spirit. This connection opens up a world of possibility, and they take this energy of possibility and transformation into their every day lives. Communities are healthier and better equipped to live longer, more fulfilling lives.
Yoga Across America® is inspiring communities across the country. Our teachings provide a foundation for healthy living. We improve health through Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga and health and wellness programs in schools, parks, low-income communities, homeless shelters, nursing homes and many other locations where people don't have access to the practice, or can't afford it.
As Yoga Across America® reaches out providing free yoga to communities who might not have access to yoga, and other diverse areas, we are co-creating change that benefits everyone. Yoga Across America® currently serves 62 high schools in 14 states, as well as thousands of veterans and service members, cancer survivors, children with special needs, and low-income families. It continues to grow with the support of donors like you!
Our non-profit organization has thrived since becoming national strategic partners with Dr. Oz's HealthCorps in 2010, which enabled us to expand our outreach to high schoolers living in underserved areas. Our flagship Yoga in the Park class remains the largest scheduled yoga class in Sacramento's history – possibly in California – with upwards of 200 souls gathering weekly to practice yoga for free. And we're continuing to add classes, strongly committed to offering "Yoga for Everyone, Everywhere."™
