For over five decades, Yoga East has made the healing benefits of yoga available to the Greater Louisville Community, regardless of the ability to pay.
When Yoga East was founded by Maja Trigg (1927-2016) in 1971, no one could have imagined where we would be 52 years later. But since the beginning, the vision was always clear: To make the benefits of yoga available to all in the Greater Louisville community.
Your donations during Give for Good Louisville:
- Help to maintain our yoga studios
- Cover the cost of technology required for virtual classes
- Keep highly-trained teachers on staff to provide quality yoga instruction
- Provide a safe environment for students to attend in-person classes
- Enable us to offer free or discounted classes to those students unable to pay regular class fees
For five decades, Yoga East's mission has been to offer the benefits of traditional yoga to as many people as possible in the Greater Louisville area. We continue to provide students with the yoga they rely on and deserve. This year we have offered $10 Chair Yoga classes twice weekly at our Holiday Manor studio, given free classes at Paristown, taught yoga at The McDowell Center for students with visual impairments, participated in employee health fairs for both the Jefferson County Department of Corrections and the Louisville Metro Police Department. We currently teach yoga classes at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens and offer weekly classes by donation. Your contributions will help us to continue our work and fulfill our mission.
Whether it be virtually from your home or our studios, past or present, Yoga East has been and will continue to be a bedrock for those seeking stillness during both ordinary and extraordinary times. To continue this work is not possible without your support. We hope you'll consider donating to Yoga East during Give for Good Louisville!
Testimonials from students:
"My initial 200-hour yoga teacher training with Laura Spaulding at Yoga East was the best investment I ever made in my wellbeing—and, unbeknownst to me at the time—in my career. When I signed up for the training, I simply wanted to learn more about the poses, but Laura’s passion and depth of knowledge ignited something in me that caused me to pursue teaching yoga, and eventually open my own yoga studio. There is no one in the city as experienced, knowledgeable, and compassionate as Laura. Training with her laid the foundation for my life as a yoga student and teacher."
"... a note to say thanks for the great impact you have had through teaching yoga. I have indirectly taken hundreds of classes from you because of your influence and teaching of others. Nearly every instructor references you - some way of teaching, some anecdote about you, with respect and sometime awe... But that metaphor about the drop of a pebble having a huge ripple effect? That certainly applies to your life here in Louisville."
"Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying the virtual classes! Thank you guys so much for going to all this trouble for our yoga community! It's much appreciated."
"We want to thank you all so much for doing this for us. It's comforting and a beneficial service you are giving us during these uncertain times and we appreciate you very much!"
"Yoga East is doing a great service for the community and I thank you ALL."
"Thank you for doing the virtual classes. It's great to stay connected in this way to our Yoga East teachers. It is such a special community."
"Thank you soooo much for offering these virtual classes. There's a ton of virtual exercise offerings but there is something special to be 'in class' with familiar faces."
"Really terrific class - technology worked great and I felt connected to the class and my practice! TY Yoga East."
"Nice job today. It was great to do Yoga again with people. I hope you continue to offer this option and consider offering it as a permanent feature in the future."
