$5,000 Goal

Annually we touch the lives of 20,000 elementary school children, 1000 teachers, and hundreds of aspiring singers. All of our programs are free for participants.  Founded in 1956, the Young Patronesses of the Opera, is a social volunteer organization comprised of over 200 women whose primary goal is to promote opera education. Today, our nonprofit organization provides the vital financial and personnel network to enable a variety of opera educational activities to prosper. YPO continues to be one of the most active and successful all-volunteergroups in the arts community.

 EDUCATING CHILDREN

In-School Opera Program  - Mini operas performed throughout 25 – 35 Miami-Dade County elementary schools. These productions are specifically designed for children in grades 1 thru 6. We strive to include as many Title 1 schools as funding permits.

Opera Funtime Books - The books are published (hard copy and online) and distributed to elementary school children in Miami-Dade & Broward counties. Each book explains a different opera, its composer, geography, music samples, games, orchestra instruments, and history.

Girl Scout Workshop - The Girl Scout Workshops feature lessons on the musical genre of opera, dance, make-up, and a hands-on activity. At the close of an educational and fun- filled workshop, the scouts are proud recipients of a Girl Scout Opera Patch.

Junior Opera Guild - The Junior Opera Guild is for teenagers and combines social and educational activities in its efforts to encourage the civic, cultural, and organizational responsibilities of its young members.

2023 – 2024 All Access Project for Autism Spectrum and IDD audiences

  SUPPORTING TEACHERS

Teachers Workshop - Over one hundred teachers attend our annual Teachers’ Professional Development Workshop. Educators receive training on how to broaden a student's horizon by exposing them to opera in the classroom.

Educator of Note Award - Annually recognizes an outstanding Miami-Dade County music teacher and presents a $2,000 stipend.

 PROMOTING OPERA

YPO National Voice Competition - The competition takes place every two years. At least 20 contestants in junior and senior categories. Former Voice Competition winners are performing in major opera houses throughout the world.
