GIVE TO SUPPORT BIPOC YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Storytelling is more than performance—it’s a way to find the magic in our experiences and uncover deeper meaning in our lives.

Our programs collaborate with BIPOC youth-serving organizations to offer immersive, community-centered storytelling experiences, providing BIPOC youth the opportunities to develop social-emotional skills, form meaningful connections, and engage their cultural roots in safe, affirming spaces. We integrate wellness practices and digital media production with culturally relevant storytelling workshops and events to to address the prevalence of loneliness and hopelessness in our communities.

Your gift, no matter the size, helps us to expand our storytelling programs across Colorado while ensuring community members find healing and purpose by sharing their powerful voices and perspectives.

Our Brand of Story: Magic in the Mundane

At YEBO, we believe the most powerful stories emerge from the everyday moments of our lives—the unpolished and authentic experiences that society often overlooks. In a world that frequently demands BIPOC individuals perform to persuade others of their humanity, we take a different approach. YEBO invites storytellers to uncover the meaning of small, everyday moments like washing dishes or eating a meal with friends. These stories don’t exist to impress others but to celebrate the beauty and richness of simply being. We deserve to exist as our everyday selves, and in embracing everyday moments, we discover the true magic of our lived experiences.

Healing and Empowerment Through Storytelling

YEBO uses research-based approaches to address the "Social and Community Context" among the five key social determinants of health, acknowledging the link between social ties and psychosocial well-being. As such, we design our programs to cultivate personal growth, foster a sense of community, and promote mental well-being for BIPOC youth. Our focus on education and career empowerment, cultural enrichment, and youth mental health ensures that participants leave with more than just stories—they move forward with a stronger sense of identity, enhanced communication skills, and the confidence to approach personal and social challenges with purpose and optimism

Why storytelling?

     - Sharing stories cultivate positive emotions, shapes self-perception, and fuels personal growth.

     - Listening to stories triggers oxytocin release, enhancing empathy and inclusivity.

     - Sharing and listening to stories aid identity development and pass down cultural knowledge.

Our core outcomes include:

    •    Enhancing Communication Skills: Participants enhance their communication skills through narrative literacy, boosting their confidence in expressing ideas and leading to successful engagement with academic, professional, and personal opportunities.

    •    Strengthening Relationships and Belonging: Our programs' intergenerational nature encourages BIPOC youth to build strong, healthy relationships with peers and older community members. These connections foster a deeper sense of belonging, contributing to participants’ emotional well-being and their ability to form trusting, meaningful relationships.

    •    Celebrating Cultural Heritage: Storytelling sessions and events allow BIPOC youth to explore and share their cultural identities, fostering a sense of pride while creating spaces for cultural exchange and mutual understanding within their communities.

    •    Supporting Mental Health: Storytelling is a powerful outlet for self-reflection and emotional expression. Through our programs, BIPOC youth learn how to navigate their emotions, build resilience, and foster a sense of purpose.
