Mission

The mission of Youth For Understanding is to prepare young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world. YFU is on the forefront of fostering cultural understanding for and respect for differences for our next generation of leaders through international education.

Programs

Youth For Understanding has offices in over 35 countries worldwide. In the US, YFU USA has 5 district offices and is a national program.The American Overseas Program provides opportunities for U.S. high school students to live with a host family and study abroad for a year, semester or summer. Financial aid and scholarships are available.The International Student program welcomes high school students from around the world to the U.S. for a year or semester to live with a volunteer American host family and attend an American high school.The Community College Program brings the host family experience to young adults and enriches the campuses of more than 15 community colleges across the U.S.
