Youth In Action (YIA) is where youth tell their stories, practice leadership and create change in their communities. We believe that youth and adults can learn from each other and work together to address issues within our communities. 

At YIA, adults serve in the role of mentorship and allyship, amplifying the voices of youth and collaboratively cultivating a space for genuine, sustainable youth-led work. For over 2 decades,  YIA has engaged youth inside and outside of school in social-emotional learning and leadership development, facilitation, public speaking, critical thinking, and identity work and given youth the opportunity to practice change.

Our youth are changemakers, leading their communities through process, advocacy and inclusion. 

This Campaign Will Help Sustain YIA's Immersion Program

Immersion Programming is our second phase of programming, where youth immerse in change and action work after establishing their core leadership style. It's in Immersion where they form Action Groups to advocate, educate and push for change. Some of their Action Groups include:

- Language Justice: Fighting for education equity for the most vulnerable multi-lingual learners in the Providence School District and throughout Rhode Island

- Ending Domestic Violence: Educating their peers on the dangers of teen dating violence, advocating for social change in how we support victims, and preventing violence and violent socialization as early as possible.

- Outdoor Equity:  Bringing awareness and advocacy into how green spaces are accessed (or not accessed) by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) folks and educating on how environmental issues impact black and brown bodies and what actions are needed.

The youth of our communities continue to fight for their future, 

and they need you to sustain their work in the present. 

Please take a minute or two and invest in their work so we can continue to develop the leaders we need today and tomorrow. Every dollar that you give sustains our Immersion Programming. This includes:

- Stipends for each participant

- Snacks and refreshments for our youth

- All supplies, technology and resources our youth need 

- Materials for campaigns and actions that the youth partake in based on their work.

We've seen our most vulnerable populations hit hardest with the pandemic, and though resources have been slim the work never stopped. Our youth continue to fight for issues such as ending intimate partner violence, fighting for multi-lingual learners educational rights and outdoor equity for communities including how the environment impacts black and brown bodies.  A gift today ensures the work continues tomorrow.

Also, if we reach our fundraising goal it will make us eligible for national grants to further sustain our Immersion programming!
