YSET Academy was started in 2003 in an effort to assist teenagers to have a safe place to go after school to discourage them from becoming involved in gangs and gang activity. YSET has successfully assisted many teens from going down the wrong path in life. We have a music program and job training program we are seeking funds for:
#1. Teens Create Their Own Music
Since YSET was started, nationally our country has emphasized academic instruction to raise students’ grades. Too often the creative arts of music, dance, drawing, and painting are cut, while athletic programs are not.
We have many talented teens in our area who want to express themselves through music, by creating and recording music that is relevant to them and their lifestyle. Many of the teens in our area are from families who live below the federal poverty level, and cannot afford the equipment or studio cost to create their music.
The money we are seeking will allow us to sound proof the recording area and update the equipment they need; pay for a program director and other operational costs of the program; and snacks for the teens since they will be coming directly to the program after school.
$25,000 is required for this program.
#2 Job Training Program
The purpose of this job preparation program is to mentor teens in the skills required to prepare for employment and will take place during after school hours. Teens in this program will receive assistance in determining their interests and areas of expertise.
Teens will learn the soft skills needed in today’s market: how to dress for success, how to behave, etc.
They will also learn how to write required job documentation: 1. A resume; 2. cover and thank you letters; 3. techniques to fill out job applications and tax paper work; and 4. appropriate people for job references.
The teens will also learn job interview skills by reviewing the do’s and don’ts of interview behavior; understanding how to manage job interview stress; learning sample interview questions; and role playing to receive feedback on the skills used in their interviews.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion and a USB jump drive with a copy of their resume, cover and thank you letters.
$45,000 is required for this program.
