Young Womens Christian Assn of Tucson Ariz

Women don't come to the YWCA Tucson looking for a hand out. They come for a hand up. Others come to shake things up. They come to network with progressive thought leaders and activists, develop their leadership skills, and learn how to make change in the public square. They come to get healthier and get ahead in their professional lives. Some come because they've been through a crisis; others because they believe a community that excludes people on the basis of race - or anything else - is a community in crisis, and they want to do something to change that.

This is the YWCA Tucson.

Up to 10000+ individuals each year are served through YWCA Tucson programs designed to improve the outcomes for women and their children in the areas of Economic Development & Educational Achievement, Leadership & Civic Engagement, Racial Justice, and Health & Wholeness.

We are an affiliate of the YWCA USA, one of the oldest and largest women's organizations in the nation. Estabilshed in 1917, the YWCA Tucson has been a tireless advocate for a more progressive Arizona for nearly 100 years. YWCA Tucson, as most chapters around the world, is not a religious affliate of any one domination.  We accept all faiths and beliefs that fall into our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Your's Sister's Closet is one of our most well-known programs. It provides women who are looking for employment with the clothes they need to interview, begin a new job and start a new life. Appointments are one on one in the YWCA's very own "boutique" where women are made to feel like they are V.I.P...because they are! 

Crystal stopped by the office the other day to say "thank you." She came to us a year ago, after losing her job. Within six weeks she had completed our YWorks program, designed to help women develop skills for employment success. She reworked her resume, practiced interview skills, brushed up on computer programs, worked with an employment coach to narrow her job search, and visited Your Sister's Closet for a "new" interview-ready wardrobe. Today she is working in a City of Tucson office - and has just been recommended for a promotion. 

"I couldn't have done it without you," Crystal said.
