Zero8Hundred Proudly Supports Our Veterans' Transition to Civilian Life"

Zero8Hundred is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to proactively link military service members, recent veterans, Reservists, National Guard and spouses (including Gold Star spouses) to the broad range of resources and opportunities in their local community dedicated to helping them transition to civilian life. Zero8Hundred derives its name from the daily military ritual of raising the American flag at 0800 hours (8:00 a.m.) to signal that a new day of work has begun.

Zero8Hundred provides 1:1 wraparound support from our team of Peer Navigators, clinically trained social workers, 12 months prior to separation and up to 12 months post military separation. Zero8Hundred Peer Navigators helps transitioning service members (TSMs) develop and implement their transition plan, through 5 Pillars of Service:

• Basic Needs Support – Peer Navigators screen for urgent needs and provide referrals to ensure access to emergency food support, shelter/housing, transportation, utilities, financial services, and legal aid services.
• Employment – For TSMs seeking employment, it can be challenging to translate specialized skills and enter or re-enter the civilian job market after years of military service. Zero8Hundred provides connections to local resources including job training programs, resume support, and employment matching services. 
• Education – Resource connections to achieve educational goals such as earning a GED, college degree, or other certifications.
• Health and Wellness – Peer Navigators assess for risk factors, provide crisis intervention if needed, and provide referrals to meet wellness needs. Needs may include navigating health care benefits and accessing medical care including substance abuse treatment, counseling and mental health care.
• Community Connections – Through our newsletter, online platforms, outreach events and day-to-day services, Zero8Hundred provides a range of opportunities for community connection including support groups, networking opportunities, self-care, personal development, and family support services.

Zero8Hundred provides the same 1:1 support to military spouses throughout their military lifestyle journey.  This support is offered free of charge to our Transitioning Service Members and their families thanks to our community partners and donors.  

Since becoming a nationally recognized independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization in January 2019, Zero8Hundred has proactively and positively impacted over 5,000 transitioning service members and their spouses in San Diego County.
