Zero Waste San Diego

We are a small grassroots nonprofit funded by sponsored events & contributions. Donations of any size impact us, and all donations will go towards our program, San Diego Fix-it Clinic.

Zero Waste San Diego was founded in 2007 and is supported by the efforts of dedicated, community-minded volunteers who share the vision of a healthier environment and more vibrant economy through Zero Waste. We promote the benefits of Zero Waste through workshops, education, outreach, event-greening, community organizing, repair, reuse and film festivals, and consulting for businesses and governments.

San Diego Fix-It Clinic

SD Fixit Clinic is a Chapter of the Fixit Clinic. Our tag line is"Open it Up. See how it works. Hopefully Fix it"

Fixit Clinic conveys basic disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair skills using peoples' own broken things as the vehicle. By sharing these skills while transferring them to others we teach critical thinking through the lens of our relationship to consumption and sustainability. We strive to demystify science and technology so that we can ultimately make better policy choices as a society.“Education, entertainment, empowerment, elucidation, and, ultimately, enlightenment through guided disassembly of your broken stuff.”

SD Fixit Clinic started in January 2016. We have hosted over 100 clinics and diverted over 3,000 lbs of discards from the library from repair or recycling.

Fix-It Clinic Goals

1. Host SD Fixit Clinic every month throughout the County of San Diego
2. Stimulate the Repair Economy in San Diego County
3. Empowering our community to dissemble their broken products with our Coaches' assistance to learn how and why something stopped working
4. Promote repair over tossing it out and buying new

Future Projects - Looking Into 2023 

• Develop a mentorship/apprenticeship program
• Create various in-person hands-on DIY repair classes
• Build a mobile pop-up Fix-It Clinic trailer to visit various festivals, fairs, and centers throughout San Diego County
