Adoptions From The Heart

For 40 years, Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH) has had a foundation that has set it apart from other adoption agencies. Began by an adoptee in 1985, Maxine Chalker integrated her personal experience into her vision for the agency. AFTH's unique approach to adoption was shaped by centering the experiences of adoptees in addition to understanding the perspectives of birth and adoptive parents. Our agency proudly employs professionals from all parts of the adoption triad, including Board members, ensuring a collaborative effort that continues to enrich and shape our organization.

AFTH is a private, 501C3 nonprofit infant and young child-placing adoption agency. Education and support are the heart of what we do to foster life-long learning, and empathy within the adoption community. Support groups, education classes, on-demand webinars, peer-to-peer mentoring, training for professionals, scholarship and support funds and wrap-around supportive services to expecting and birth parents are among AFTH’s comprehensive services. We have also developed platforms such as AFTHtv to diversify adoption conversations and hold a space for the often unheard voices so we can continue growing and learning from one another.

Expecting & Birth Parent Support Fund: Our Birth Parent Support Fund is a fund dedicated to helping Expecting & Birth Parents in need. A little financial relief from difficult circumstances can make a huge difference and AFTH has seen it propel these families into a better place with ongoing stability. 

Birth Parent Scholarship Fund: AFTH wants to help birth parents get on their feet and establish a career. AFTH Educational scholarships can be used for trade schools, undergraduate studies or for graduate studies at a university.

Program & Services: Your donations help support our programs and services for our clients. We help provide educational courses and support groups for Expecting and Birth Parents, Adoptive Parents, and Adoptees. 

"We placed our newborn but were also parenting a son together. I lost my job and then our house and we moved in with my parents. Our car needed an inspection and with no way to get to work my girlfriend was about to lose her job. AFTH saved her job by paying for the inspection and gave us Walmart gift cards to help buy food. AFTH got us through one of the most difficult times in our lives."
