Alamo Area Search and Rescue

A nonprofit organization

What’s New

Alamo Area Search and Rescue assists public safety agencies and law enforcement agencies by deploying to an average of twenty searches throughout the year. We assist at potential crime scene locations, search for missing persons, and aid in providing rescue or closure for families. This past July, we worked alongside Emergency Management agencies in Kendall County after the 4th of July flood.  We are always working within our community to raise awareness of our organization, and built lasting bridges with local Law Enforcement agencies to broaden our deployment base.

Mission Statement

“Alamo Area Search and Rescue (AASAR) is committed to providing search and rescue resources of the highest quality to public safety agencies in Texas. Our responders are certified by national agencies and are committed to enhancing their skills through continuing education.”

AASAR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer Search and Rescue organization headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. AASAR provides free-of-charge ground support personnel and K9 teams to Bexar County, South Central Texas, and across the state of Texas at the request of law enforcement, fire departments, public safety agencies, and other emergency management agencies.

Members are highly-trained, professional volunteers that make both time and financial commitments to become skilled self-sufficient ground support and K9 teams to deploy at a moment’s notice. All members are nationally-certified and proficient in land navigation/GPS, communications, tracking, crime scene preservation, basic first aid/CPR, HAZMAT awareness, tracking, and search management.

AASAR members make a significant dedication of their time to volunteer to Search and Rescue efforts. This is in addition to full-time careers and family commitments, Members are financially responsible for the cost of gear, travel, national certifications, and additional seminars/trainings. K9 handlers are responsible routine/emergency veterinary care, training costs, and everyday expenses to maintain their partners in good physical condition.

Needs Statement

For 2024, AASAR would like to provide each certified team member with a field first aid kit. The team needs additional GPS units and radios for our growing roster. We also hope to supplement the cost of outside trainers to instruct the various SAR disciplines.

AASAR operating costs such as team trainings, maintenance on our command trailer, 2-way radios for communication, GPS units, first aid supplies, continuing education, team insurance, and deployment costs are generated through donors, member fees, and various fundraising events throughout the year including the Big Give. 100% of our donations go towards these costs and allow us to be a self-sufficient, free-of-charge, valuable Search and Rescue resource to our community!
