In 1992 Dale Eastman, a breast cancer survivor, along with three other survivors gathered around her dining room table to share ideas for making a difference in the lives of others diagnosed with breast cancer. During their respective breast cancer journeys they had discovered that treatment options available in the 1990s had not changed since the 1970s and that many women, after being diagnosed, had only two or three days to make major decisions regarding surgery and treatment. They deemed this totally unacceptable, and thus was born Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) in 1993. Dale and the other ABCF founders made the identification of the cause, prevention and cure of breast cancer, as well as ensuring quality care for all women, their personal quest and ABCF’s. That quest continues.
For over 3 decades, the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) has dutifully served our community with action, compassion and hope. ABCF’s unwavering dedication to all those affected by breast cancer is rooted in our vision of a world free of breast cancer. Everything we do is another step towards that goal, and we could not do it without you.
Our work is rooted in 4 vital programs that serve as lifelines for countless individuals:
1. Helpline & Patient Financial Assistance Program – Offering personalized guidance and financial support directly to patients navigating the emotional and financial challenges of diagnosis and treatment.
2. "Healthy Women Make Healthy Communities" Outreach & Screening Program – Bringing education, early detection, and screening services directly to underserved populations.
3. Legislative & Public Policy Advocacy Program – Championing policies at the local, state & federal level that improve access to care, fund research, and protect patient rights.
4. Alamo Advocate Program at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium – Equipping advocates from all over the world with cutting-edge scientific knowledge to amplify the patient voice in research and care. Over 500 advocate scholarships have been awarded through this program.
These programs are not just initiatives, they are lifelines, and they depend on the generous support of friends like you.
