Alec's Angel

A nonprofit organization

Our customized programs and network of support people are designed to navigate the Veteran's Affairs hospitals with confidence. Outcomes include awareness of resources and continued self-care through the transition from military to civilian life. We provide equitable access to these crucial medical and financial benefits that help sustain these veterans and keeps them from self-harm through addictions, homelessness and potential suicide. This impacts the families of the veteran because of healing and sustained work/economic benefit and it impacts the community through lowered crime rates and deviant behavior.

Veterans will secure their entitled benefits and services by way of a clear understanding of their personal military injuries and learn how to navigate the government disability claims process to report those injuries. These include men and women of primarily Caucasian, Hispanic and African American descents between the ages of twenty two to seventy two.
Our three phase program confidentially supports the veteran from initiation until they have secured their entitled medical and financial compensation. We partner with and present at existing veteran service organizations and utilize their facilities and programs to maximize efforts. Alec's Angel provides private one on one consults with a professional rehab specialist for preparing disability documentation. Finally, we meet veterans at the proper VA medical and business offices to foster independence and the road to healing.

Alec's Angel aims to provide 120 Dallas/Ft. Worth veterans (August 2018 to August 2019) with the skills to secure entitled VA benefits. We equip them with the appropriate paperwork to gain access to higher disability ratings. Approximately 115 of them will receive an outcome of a disability rating increase to 70 to 100 percent, which is required to access comparable medical care and in some cases provides access to entitled school and nursing home benefits. The other 5 will receive an increase between 20 and 60 percent.
This partnership keeps the VA medical system costs low because preventative and rehabilitative care is utilized. Disability checks are also issued on behalf of the Department of the VA, which balances the finances and keeps the veteran and the family from becoming homeless. They finally receive free care (physical, mental, emotional), and are encouraged to continue their individual treatment plans until they are more stable.

Our Needs

We need to cover basic expenses like our website, insurance, and the purchase of supplies to keep in operation. We also need to pay staff to present to large groups and to consult one on one with specialized services related to disability claims support at the Dallas VA hospital. This includes approximately 2 hours per veteran of private consultation time and approximately five hours of on site visitation at the VA hospital (both business and medical offices).

Our basic organizational model consists of two primary employee positions and a part-time web marketing assistant. A wife (Nissa Salas) and her veteran husband (Mark Salas) with over 18 years of marriage and five years VA experience serve as Program Directors and Project Coordinator. There is no building or overhead and we elicit volunteers as needed.
