Allegheny Land Trust

Allegheny Land Trust's mission is to serve as the lead land trust conserving and stewarding lands that support the scenic, recreational, and environmental well-being of communities in Allegheny County and its environs.

ALLEGHENY LAND TRUST is a non-profit land conservation organization helping local people save local land in the Pittsburgh region since 1993.

With more than 2,000 acres of green space, ALT continues to work on protecting and stewarding land of significant value to our region's unique scenic landscape, biodiversity, and water quality

LAND PROTECTION, STEWARDSHIP, AND NOW EDUCATION are three core areas where ALT directs staff efforts to protect land, maintain and improve its quality, and educate community members on its valuable attributes.

OUR CONSERVATION AREAS are spread throughout Allegheny and Washington counties. Most often, we make our green spaces publicly accessible for passive recreation. Sometimes we restrict access to green spaces due to fragile species, lack of access, or other reasons unique to that property.

OUR CURRENT EFFORTS involve traditional land conservation, innovative land conservation, and education. Much of our history has been in protecting large tracts of undeveloped land; we're now exploring innovative approaches to using the land trust model as a tool for community needs. ALT partners with communities and organizations looking to maintain or advance their community's assets. For example, we're targeting smaller tracts of land that can help urban communities maintain community green spaces, gardens, and other projects. We will be creating an Urban Green Print to help identify communities and parcels in need.
