At Assistance League of St. Louis, nearly 500 passionate volunteers serve our community through five core programs that provide essential support for children, women, and families in need.

• Deliver emergency beds, bedding, clothing and household items to families in crisis

• Fund scholarships that empower young women to pursue higher education and transform their futures

💙 What We Do

Assistance League of St. Louis operates five core programs that support over 30,000 students, women, and families each year—always powered by nearly 500 volunteers.

🎒 Operation School Bell®

We outfit students for success by providing new uniforms, shoes, socks, personal care items, and a book to take home. We also stock 36 AL’s Closets inside local schools—giving children year-round access to clean clothing and essentials when crisis strikes.

📚 Books From Friends

Books From Friends inspires a love of reading through interactive book festivals featuring storybook parades, author visits, and puppet shows. Children choose books to build their own home libraries—because literacy starts with access.

💜 Project ROSE (Raise Our Self-Esteem)

Project ROSE brings hope and dignity to women and children in crisis. We deliver First-Night Bags to women entering shelters, seasonal gifts for families, and activity kits for children. We also provide sexual assault survivor kits with clean clothing and hygiene items to local hospital programs.

🏠 Assistance League Outreach

When families face crisis, AL Outreach steps in quickly with the basics: beds, bedding, hygiene items, and household goods. We work with 57 schools and agencies to provide relief and stability when it’s needed most—because everyone deserves a safe place to land.

🎓 Scholarships

In partnership with St. Louis Community College, our scholarship program empowers women to pursue higher education, gain skills, and uplift their families. Since 2015, over 150 scholarships have been awarded—opening doors to brighter futures.
