AHF - Amarillo Housing First has been changing lives by ending homelessness through permanent housing and support services since December 2016. To continue our mission, we rely on the community's generosity to help fund our operations. We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received so far! Over the past 9 years, we have helped end homelessness for more than 500 households.
We provide year-round support to chronically unhoused individuals and families, helping them obtain and maintain stable housing. Through our Housing Case Management program, we guide clients along various pathways to housing, each tailored to meet the unique needs of different populations. As clients move toward housing stability, we assist with critical steps like obtaining identification, connecting to benefits, finding job opportunities, and accessing other resources, including physical and mental health support. We also provide hygiene items and seasonal survival supplies throughout the year.
When clients move into their new living spaces, they are often starting from scratch, which is why our Furniture and Household Goods Closet program helps furnish their new space and make it truly feel like a home. Each day, we are committed to supporting both recently housed clients and those still experiencing homelessness, conducting home visits and outreach on the streets, and connecting all clients to the resources they need to thrive in housing and in life.
When AHF was founded, we were also deeply committed to preventing death and injury due to harsh winter conditions. During the winter of 2016/2017, we launched the Mobile Shelter Unit (MSU) in downtown Amarillo. The following winter, with the support of the Texas Panhandle community and Amarillo's Continuum of Care, the MSU evolved into the Code Blue Warming Station (CBWS) program. Now in our 9th season, CBWS continues to be a lifesaving outreach during extreme winter weather.
As winter approaches, we distribute essential winter gear to those in need within the unhoused community. During extreme winter weather, our mobile volunteers comb the streets and respond to community tips to locate unsheltered individuals and their pets, and offer a ride to bring them into warmth and safety.
We depend on community members to provide description and location information via text to 806.414.2243 so we can dispatch a mobile volunteer.

In 2020, AHF began hosting LifeRing recovery meetings. These meetings provide critical support to clients striving for sobriety and offer an additional recovery option to the broader community.
