Amigos For Kids (AFK) implements an education framework that encompasses various crucial programs. These include an After-School Program and the evidenced-based Nurturing Parents Program.
The After-School Program, located at Jose Marti Park, serves over 100 children daily, aged 6 to 11, providing a safe and educational environment. Concurrently, educational parenting workshops are conducted at 25 community-based sites throughout Miami-Dade County, benefitting over 250 families. These workshops are designed to offer essential guidance and support to parents and caregivers.
AFK’s approach integrates comprehensive care coordination, catering to families in need of additional services, thus providing a holistic support system.
The organization’s annual 'Blue Ribbon' campaign is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for child abuse prevention by emphasizing the significance of positive family functioning. The impactful efforts of Amigos For Kids were acknowledged by The Children's Trust, receiving the distinguished honor of 'Program of the Year,' recognizing the organization's impactful performance.
Beyond these core programs, AFK extends specialized support services, such as the Back-To-School Drive, supplying necessary school supplies and backpacks to the most vulnerable families. The renowned Amigos For Kids Annual Toy Drive fulfills the wishes of families in need, engaging donors and volunteers across Miami-Dade County. The distribution of toys through this drive positively impacts over 2,000 children annually.
One of the notable initiatives, 'Amigos Strengthens Families and Communities,' is a community-based program tailored to parents, caregivers, and children up to 11 years old. The primary goal is to prevent child abuse/neglect by empowering families and children. Through effective education and support, the program focuses on developing communication, role-playing, and life skills, promoting empathy, parental self-care, and alternative discipline methods for successful parenting. Children also engage in educational group activities to acquire age-appropriate skills.
