Andrea’s Project was created in loving memory of Andrea Elizalde, a 17-year-old senior at Randall High School who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in April 2019. Andrea was full of life—smart, kind, artistic, athletic, and deeply loved by everyone who knew her.
What makes Andrea’s story even more heartbreaking is this:
The driver who killed her was also 17.
Two youth. Two families. One irreversible tragedy caused by underage drinking and impaired driving.
This wasn’t “just an accident.”
It was a preventable tragedy—one that revealed a deeper truth:
When young people have easy access to alcohol, the consequences reach far beyond their own lives.
Andrea’s family chose to transform grief into action, building Andrea’s Project so no other family would endure the pain they did. Today, her story guides everything we do.
Andrea’s story is proof that youth substance use doesn’t just impact one child—it impacts entire communities.
The Panhandle faces alarming rates of:
Underage drinking
Youth alcohol access
Teen impaired driving
Early experimentation with vaping and other substances
Because both Andrea and the driver were underage, our organization is deeply committed to reducing youth access to alcohol, strengthening community awareness, and equipping teens to make safer choices long before harm occurs.
Our work is about prevention—not punishment.
We focus on education, early intervention, and creating environments where youth feel supported, informed, and empowered.
Real stories—like Andrea’s—help individuals understand the true cost of impaired driving and inspire change before another life is lost.
We teach youth about impaired driving, alcohol access, decision-making, coping skills, and how one moment can change everything. These programs are designed for teens—because Andrea’s story is a youth story.
Bringing together law enforcement, schools, behavioral health, public health, and community organizations to address youth substance use at a systems level.
We use local data and prevention science to help parents, schools, and leaders understand youth risk factors and how to protect our young people.
We address the root causes of impaired driving—youth access, norms around drinking, lack of awareness, stress, and social pressures.
When a 17-year-old kills another 17-year-old because of underage drinking, it becomes painfully clear:
Prevention saves lives.
Access matters.
Youth education is urgent.
Your support helps us:
Reach more youth before they start using alcohol
Reduce the ability for minors to access alcohol
Teach students the real risks of impaired driving
Strengthen partnerships across 26 counties

You help us protect lives—and honor Andrea’s memory in the most meaningful way.
Andrea should have graduated, gone to college, and lived a long, beautiful life.
The driver should have had a chance to grow into adulthood without the burden of a tragedy he could never undo.
Youth prevention and access reduction are not just programs—
They are the core of our mission.
They are how we honor Andrea.
They are how we protect future teens.
They are how we prevent the next tragedy before it happens.
Thank you for helping us turn heartbreak into hope—for every youth, every family, and every community in the Panhandle.
