A nonprofit organization

The Mission of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall is to serve as an outstanding library, theater and historic site that informs, entertains and engages its community and the region in ife long learning.

The ACFL&MH is a 35,000 sq.ft. historic landmark facility. It is Andrew Carnegie's legacy gift to the borough that incorporated to take his name in 1894. Thirty years ago, the ACFL&MH's future was bleak. It had $136 in its checking account after payroll, In late 2003 the ACFL&MH launched a capital campaign to restore its facility and revitalize it programming. It has raised more than $8.5 and undergone a transformation from moribund to magical, and stands again as Carnegie's "beacon on the hill."

The "Carnegie Carnegie" is home to a beautiful library that is treasured by the community it serves. Its acoustically superb Music Hall attracts audiences and performers from throughout the region. Its rare Civil War room, the Captain Thomas Espy Post No. 153 of the Grand Army of the Republic, is a true national treasure. It has been documented by scholars as the most intact GAR Post in the country. Once there were 7,000. Visitors come from throughout the region, from across the country, even abroad. The Espy Post along with the ACFL&MH's Lincoln Gallery make the Library & Musical Hall a significant Civil War destination.
