Founded in 1999, Animal Protection Association (APA) is proud to be celebrating 25 years of saving lives. APA is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue for homeless cat and kittens. 

By supporting APA’s Give for Good Louisville campaign, you will help us fulfill our mission which is to rescue and find homes for the forgotten cats and kittens in our area – the ones who are homeless, abandoned and mistreated. We believe all cats deserve the chance to live, love and be loved. We give every treatable, savable, rehabilitatable cat the second chance it deserves. We serve as their voice in the community.

As an all-volunteer shelter we have no paid staff. You can feel comfortable knowing your donation goes directly to the 200+ cats who come our way each year.

APA makes a commitment to every single cat and kitten we take in – to provide shelter, nourishment, enrichment, medical care and love for as long as they need, whether that’s a few days, months, years or even their lifetime. We are more than a shelter; we are a rescue, and for some we are a sanctuary.

No cat is made available for adoption until it has been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, tested for disease and is up-to-date on vaccinations. 

Last year we took in 163 kittens and 49 adult cats into our shelter and foster homes. As you would expect, medical care is the largest expense for our organization. Getting a cat or kitten ready for adoption costs $180 per cat or kitten. Our adoption fee is only $80 so your gift today can really help make up the gap. 

We feel strongly that spaying and neutering is the only long-term solution to pet overpopulation. APA takes great pride in knowing that we have stopped a huge number of unwanted kittens from being born in the future. By spaying and neutering just one male and one female cat, more than 2,000 unwanted births can be prevented in just four years and more than 2 million can be prevented in 8 years! Please join us in helping take even more cats and kittens off the streets and help us prevent unwanted kittens from being born.
