ANNA Shelter

The Association for Needy and Neglected Animals aka ANNA Shelter is a non profit true no kill open admission animal welfare organization founded by Ruth Thompson in June 2004. It is our goal to provide unwanted, stray, abused and neglected animals with a safe, loving, nurturing environment where they are either reunited with their owners or placed into new life long loving homes.  

We are committed to providing these animals the proper care and attention they need to thrive in our facility and accommodate their individual needs.  Ultimately we will work daily to provide as many adoptable animals the opportunity to find new homes regardless of space or time restrictions.  Giving each animal a chance - one animal, one day at a time.  Remembering the three "R"'s - Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome.

Programs Include:

Animal Cruelty and Neglect Team investigations of neglect and cruelty concerns; education and assistance provided when needed and prosecution via local authorities when necessary 

Rehabilitation offering necessary and extraneous medical care to every animal who needs us from mice/gerbils to dogs/cats, horses and farm animals - we don't discriminate and welcome them all

Adoptions daily one and off site

Stray Animal Housing for Erie and surrounding counties

Public Food Bank offering help when pet parents are low on supplies

Veterinary Centers offering low cost services to the general public including Trap Neuter Release of neighborhood cats through FIXERIE

Veterans Outreach Program offering sponsored adoptions to our local heroes 

School/Senior Visits and other enrichment for the animals and people taking the animals into the community for visits and education - a win/win for all involved

Farm Animal Rescue a full service working farm facility for horses, cows, farm foul, sheep, goats, etc.

Training & Retention Programs for Pet Owners working with two of Erie's leading trainers we provide support POST adoption to help the pet transition and teach pet parents to communicate - retention is always the goal.

You will not find a more dedicated team who work 365 days, a year 24 hours a day, 7 days a week living out this mission with dedication to and passion for the animals we serve.  This is truly much more then a place or a job - it's a lifestyle.  We are well aware of the need for the support of our amazing community.  When they need us - we need you!
