ArchCity Defenders

We are a racial justice and holistic legal advocacy organization. For over fifteen years, our work has challenged prejudicial and punitive policies and practices, advanced equity, fought for revolutionary justice, and supported individuals, families, and communities devastated by racism and neglect. Our agency was founded to combat housing insecurity and homelessness and to advance the rights of communities of color, poor people, tenants, unhoused people, and families.

Victories & Impact, from July 2023-June 2024: 

-Recovered $10.52 million in settlements for civil rights clients and class members 

-Secured $1,000,000 in debt relief for clients. 

-Secured 350 case dismissals for 70 clients. Of these, 31 totaled $105,650 in judgements avoided. 

-Assisted 178 individuals in getting $73,000 in utility and rental assistance. 

-Through interventions from legal or social work staff, 105 people in 38 households were able to avoid homelessness and/or move into permanent housing.
