Founded in 2010, The Arc of North Central Virginia (NCV) is a local chapter of the world’s largest community-based organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We serve the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock and are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by public and private sector sponsors, and governed by a local volunteer board of directors.
The Arc of North Central Virginia is committed to supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach their full potential through building community awareness, acceptance, and capacity for support, enabling them to live connected and meaningful lives in the community.
Your donation will help support The Arc of NCV to:
Provide ArcConnect: This program provides 1-1 confidential consultations to help families connect with resources and navigate Virginia’s complex system of supports for people with IDD. Examples include support for accessing public assistance programs, the special educational process, or finding social/recreational opportunities.
Host Programs and Events: Provide educational and social events offering critical information and platforms to build connections for people with I/DD and their families. Currently we offer our Arc@Home monthly program, Community Of Self-Advocates (COSA) virtual activities (in partnership with RRCS), and annual events including Arc@thePark, Arctober, and a Community Dance.
Develop Local Resources: Targeted directories, videos, and reference documents help families access local supports and services, and build community acceptance of people with I/DD in our area.
Partner with Local Organizations: Partnerships with other public and private organizations in our area increases opportunities, optimizes resources, and broadens awareness of The Arc’s mission throughout our community.
Community of Self-Advocates (COSA), new in 2021, is local resource formed through a partnership between The Arc of NCV and Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS). (COSA) connects and supports adults with I/DD in our 5-county area of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock with weekly virtual programming including game nights, cooking club, crafts and other activities.
The Arc of NCV chairs the disAbility Coalition of NCV, with more than a dozen organizational members. The Coalition regularly exchanges organizational announcements and collaborates on emerging issues in our community.
Collaborate with National, State, and local Arc Chapters: As a small chapter in the expansive Arc network, participating in local and regional Arc conferences, activities, and advocacy efforts amplifies The Arc of NCV’s voice on behalf of individuals with I/DD, and increases its effectiveness as an organization.
