To provide temporary shelter, food, medical attention and comfort to neglected and injured animals; to restore lost animals to their owners or seek new homes for them and to educate the public about the humane care of animals.

For over one hundred years, the Animal Rescue League has served the animals of the region. In that time, we have saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of animals, finding them homes, providing medical care and helping to control the animal population.

We are proud to be a haven for all animals. At our shelter, we care for and find permanent, loving homes for dogs, cats and other companion animals, many of whom have been abused and neglected. At our Wildlife Center, we rehabilitate wildlife native to Pennsylvania that has been harmed or displaced by encounters with man. With the support of individuals, organizations and foundations, the Animal Rescue League can continue the programs and services that help all animals in need, regardless of species or breed.

The Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center has the distinction of being the only Open Door Shelter in the region, making us the largest animal welfare organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The number of animals we rescue annually demonstrates our commitment and dedication. In 2015 we:
• Placed 6,560 animals into homes through adoptions
• Reunited 810 animals with their owners through our lost and found services
• Accepted 1,261 animals that were turned away from limited admission shelters
• Altered 5,945 companion animals in our low cost clinic
• Treated 9,017 community pets in our low cost clinic
• Helped 3,531 wild animals native to Pennsylvania at our Wildlife Center in Verona
