Artivism Dance Theatre

Artivism Dance Theatre is a non-profit comprising three branches: a performance company, studio space on Oak Street, and educational partnerships across the city of New Orleans. Our work is rooted in the belief that art can reach across differences in perspective and experience. We value collaboration and community, building relationships through workshops, classes, and performances. Social justice informs everything we do and we believe in the healing power of movement to transform our world.

Founded in 2017, Artivism began as a small collective of artists and has grown into a professional dance company with biannual performances, a studio space that houses multiple dance communities, and a non-profit that partners with a variety of organizations both locally and nationally.
Artivism's studio hosts dance classes for youth and adults and offers a competitive percentage split to our teachers. These classes are a part of our scholarship program and we offer class discounts for scholarship participants as well as a professional development program for working dancers in the New Orleans community.
Within the community, we work with the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center providing dance classes for incarcerated youth , the DEA Education Foundation and 21st Century Schools to provide after-school programming, and Operation Restoration to offer monthly movement experiences for teens with incarcerated family members.
Our professional company holds original shows each year. Most recently, we partnered with Zony Mash for our second edition of "Gumbo Cypher; an Immersive Street Dance Experience". We look forward to continuing to foster dance in New Orleans for years to come.
