At Assistance League of Long Beach, we are committed to empowering and transforming lives of children and adults through our heartfelt and impactful programs. Our dedicated volunteers create a powerful network of compassion and support.
As one of the largest and most active chapters among 120 nationwide, we focus on uplifting children and families in the greater Long Beach area. Here's how we make a difference:
Operation School Bell®: We provide 12,000 children in need (K-12) with new school uniforms, backpacks, and essential school supplies, ensuring they feel confident and ready to learn.
Orthodontic Program: We offer high-quality, affordable orthodontic care to over 1,000 children, giving them not just beautiful smiles but also greater self-esteem and a brighter future.
Kids on the Block: Through our puppet program, we educate students on alternatives to violence and bullying, fostering empathy and understanding in our young ones.
Launching Literacy: We nurture the minds of underserved K-1 students by teaching them pre-reading skills, laying a strong foundation for their academic journey.
ALa Carte: At Miller Children’s Hospital, we bring joy and comfort to over 1,200 pediatric patients and their families with bedside arts and entertainment activities.
Howard and Asian Art Collection Tours: Each year, we enlighten seventh graders about Asian history and art, enriching their cultural understanding and appreciation.
Assisteens® Programs: High school aged volunteers make a difference through programs like Feast of the Hearts and Helping Hands, providing vital assistance to children and adults in need, fostering a spirit of generosity and community support.
CAMEO Professional Auxiliary’s Mentoring Program: We mentor 31 high school students and re-entry career women from Long Beach Unified School District and Long Beach City College, guiding them towards successful futures.
Vocational Training Program: We help students from the Adult Transition Program at California State University, Long Beach, and Millikan High School’s Adult Community Transition Program develop work and social skills, empowering them to move from dependence to independence.
Scholarships Program: We award financial scholarships to students attending California State University, Long Beach, and Long Beach City College, investing in their dreams and future success.
Assault Survivor Kits®: We care for survivors of sexual assault by providing "wear home" clothes when their clothing is needed for evidence, offering them dignity and comfort in their time of need.
Through these impactful programs, Assistance League of Long Beach creates lasting, positive change, bringing hope and support to those who need it most in our community.
Long Beach Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Jill Baker:
"Here in the Long Beach Unified School District, we see first-hand the positive impact that Assistance League has upon our students. Much of the credit for our school district's internationally recognized success goes to the dedicated volunteers and generous donors who support Assistance League's programs.
Each year, Assistance League helps to clothe thousands of school children whose families cannot afford to buy school uniforms. This program and many more are helping to ensure greater equity in our schools and communities. Without Assistance League's exemplary partnership, we could not fulfill our school district's vital mission of serving every student, every day."
Long Beach Unified School District Deputy Superintendent, Tiffany Brown:
"Your team of committed volunteers and staff are amazing. You all thought of every detail to make the gathering kind, inviting, fun and useful for the students and community. I loved the added touch of having students present from Jordan High School to support children finding the appropriate uniform size.
Most of all, I saw students/families leaving feeling proud of their new clothing items and prepared for school on the following Monday. That….is priceless. The more students feel comfortable in their body and their clothes, the more they can focus on instruction in their classrooms.
We know that you do so much for so many. You have my/our/LBUSD’s gratitude for the ways in which you stretch into our community. Please extend our heartfelt thanks to your team."
