Believing that the essential and transformative powers of art and the natural environment are central to a thriving future for all, A Studio in the Woods is dedicated to forest preservation, science-inspired art education, and supporting artists and scholars who are interested in tackling the challenging issues of our time with power and imagination. During this period of profound tumult and uncertainty, the Studio's mission is more relevant than ever: fostering creative responses to the challenges of our age by providing retreat to artists, scholars, and the public in a protected forest on the Mississippi River in Orleans Parish.

Since its founding in 2001, A Studio in the Woods has supported more than 330 artists and scholars from New Orleans, the nation, and the world by providing time, space, and staff support to cultivate critical thinking, the creation of new works, and community conversation on 7.66 acres of Bottomland Hardwood Forest in Lower Algiers.
