Attack Theatre

A nonprofit organization

Attack Theatre builds community with artists and audiences through the process and production of personal, accessible dance-based performance. Blending varied art forms with dynamic contemporary dance, Attack Theatre creates passionate portrayals of everyday life.

Vision: Through inherently collaborative and deliberately inter-dependent artistic and educational programs, Attack Theatre will continue to demonstrate its uniquely integrated approach to art and living to connect communities, artists and audiences - in Pittsburgh and around the world.

Attack Theatre has been making critically acclaimed dance for 22 years, uniting artists and audiences through the process and production of personal, accessible, and collaborative dance-based performance. Attack Theatre has reached tens of thousands of people annually with its high-quality, innovative performances, which combine contemporary dance, live music, and multimedia to create "delicious moments of intimacy" (Le Dauphine Vaucluse-Matin, France).

Attack Theatre's artistic vision is guided by its Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors, Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza. With Attack Theatre, Peter and Michele have created and choreographed over 150 original works over the last 22 years. In the past two seasons, Attack Theatre's work was recognized by Dance Examiner's Top 10 Best Dance Performances for "Between" (2015) and "The Chalk Line" (2013), Pittsburgh Post Gazette's Best Dance of 2013 for "The Chalk Line", and Best Theater of 2015 for the performance of "The Winter's Tale" with Quantum Theatre and Chatham Baroque.

Testimonials

"Thank you Attack Theatre for an awesome month of challenging me to move my body. Thank you for the opportunity to try and fail and try again. Thank you for making me feel like a dancer. Thank you for inspiring me to bring new life to my students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me movement that makes me forget my weight or height or stubby feet and instead feel like I can soar and move even with my eyes closed. I am forever grateful for this learning experience and am sad that it is over ... For now. #Dancelife #Grateful #Lifelonglearner" (Dance class attendee, 2016).

"It's not often that a company can be so generous with, even eager to please its audiences, but still be daring enough to lead them on a journey that breaks new artistic boundaries." (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 2008).

"I was nothing short of moved. I was welcomed. From the box office, to the bar, to the curtain speech, the dancers and the musicians... every step of the way was thoughtfully constructed and seemed like it was made just for me. Attack should write a book on how arts companies can make a difference not just through their art but through the whole experience." (Attendee, The Soldier's Tale, 2014).
