Autism Society Bayou

A nonprofit organization

To promote and advocate for the general welfare of persons with autism,to support the families of individuals with autism spectrum disorders and to raise awareness of all aspects of autism which affect the families. Autism Society Bayou supports children, adults with autism, and their families in the surrounding areas: St Mary, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption and Lower St. Martin parishes (counties).

Our outreach includes monthly support group meetings on the 3rd Saturday of each month, participation in local community events, and hosting our annual Autism Information Expo, Trivia Night, 5K for Autism Awareness, Scholarship Program, and Mini-Grant Program. We also provide a Resource Guide for families and local service providers.

Autism Society Bayou's partnerships with local service providers, businesses, civic leaders and non-profit organizations afford us many unique opportunities to promote autism awareness in the very areas our families are living and working. Many of our community supporters have hosted special events to help promote autism awareness and inclusive activities in our community.

Increased awareness and acceptance have helped families by making local resources and recreation opportunities more inclusive, acknowledged the dignity of our community by local proclamations and recognition by our civic leaders, and Autism Society Bayou's events, support groups, and art initiatives have provided opportunities for children and adults with autism and their families to gain knowledge, make new connections and friendships, and participate in fun and enriching activities in their own neighborhoods.
