Project Backpack

A nonprofit organization

Project Backpack is a unique not for profit organization that solely focuses on helping kids--the forgotten victims of domestic violence. The children we serve are often removed from their homes with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. They are often described as sad and vulnerable by the police departments, social workers and other not for profit organizations that are "part of the process" when kids are taken from their homes. We deliver our backpacks to professionals interacting with the kids and are told they are a powerful tool to help ease the trauma as the children are moved to a safe environment--at the time of greatest crisis. The backpack tells the child that someone cares when their whole world is crashing around them. Our backpacks are age and gender appropriate and contain all NEW necessities (toiletries, underwear, shirts, school supplies, etc.) as well as comfort items. We serve from birth to age 18, in cases of domestic violence, abuse, neglect, homelessness, natural disasters, and other similar situations.
Project Backpack is an all-volunteer organization. We have no paid employees. We maintain a warehouse where we welcome individuals, employer groups, church groups, brownies, scouts, and other groups who want to come and help us pack. This is an awesome way to expose kids to community service --and the importance of giving back! We look forward to seeing you at the warehouse soon!
