Mission

Preserve and share the stories of Bainbridge Island to promote a greater understanding of our community and the world in which we live.

Description

At the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, we work to spark curiosity and inspire people to connect, explore different perspectives, reflect, and celebrate the diverse stories of this community.

The Museum's primary exhibit has been completely transformed into a lively, beautiful, and provocative new exhibit in the iconic 1908 schoolhouse. Our Community: Past to Present illuminates diverse, beloved, and previously untold or mistold stories about Bainbridge Island past and present.

The primary exhibit showcases individual Bainbridge communities, or groups of people linked by heritage, work, hobby, or other association. Each community section -- there are 13 -- is filled with authentic cultural materials, photos, oral and video recordings, and text. A combination of historical content and elegant design also features sensory and hands-on learning activities for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

In the Helen L. Bucey Gallery, a new exhibit, Postal, will start early in January 2024. Please stop by to see and discover the many post offices on Bainbridge Island during through the years.

The Museum is free to the public and open Wednesday-Sunday 10am-4pm. Stop by for a visit!
