The mission of the Bainbridge-Ometepe Sister Islands Association (BOSIA) is to encourage mutual understanding, education, friendship, cultural and peaceful exchanges between the people of Bainbridge Island and Ometepe Island, and between the peoples of the United States and Nicaragua.
Established in 1986, BOSIA supports collaborative projects with Ometepe's rural farming/fishing population of ~42,000 islanders (per capita income less than the Nicaragua average of $326). All projects are initiated by Ometepe residents for community benefit and must be sustainable. BOSIA does not fund government projects or receive government funds. The goal of BOSIA is to create diverse bridges of friendship between our islands.
