Basilica National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe

The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe is a house of pilgrimage and prayer to inspire in the faithful an ever-deeper devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church. By the ministry of the Basilica, the faithful will be strengthened in the imitation of Christ and in faithful service to that King whom "to serve is to reign".

Today this house of prayer continues to inspire those who come to worship, pray, and engage in quiet contemplation. Through the celebration of liturgy, prayer, the viewing of sacred art, the receiving of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, faithful from all over the world pilgrims on a journey-including those living here in Central Florida find comfort, calm and spiritual renewal amidst the hectic pace of the outside world. 

More than 70 million people are visiting Orlando each year. They are coming from every state and many countries across the world. Some five million of these annual visitors are Catholic. Hence the need for an appropriate - and unifying- place of worship. And no place could be more appropriately unifying than a shrine dedicated in the name of Mary, Queen of the Universe.

In union with the mother of God, and under patronage as queen of the universe, the friends and family of Mary's Shrine work to manifest Christ Jesus to the multitudes.
