Mission
To enrich people's lives through a premier public garden of natural and designed Pacific Northwest landscapes.
…being present in nature elevates and nurtures the human spirit, heals hearts and minds, and enriches our communities, and our world.” - Virginia Bloedel
Bloedel Reserve is a 140-acre public garden and nature reserve situated on Bainbridge Island. To fulfill our mission, we maintain the Reserve as a center for horticulture and design, conservation and stewardship, creativity and inspiration, and nature and well-being.
Nearly 80,000 annual guests find solace and inspiration at Bloedel Reserve, an experiential public garden and forest reserve featuring a mixed tapestry of woodlands, meadows, and landscaped gardens. With 23 distinct landscapes to explore, it’s a perfect place to find your nature. Please consider a gift to Bloedel Reserve to help us nurture this unique place for our community.
2023 Year in Review
In 2023, Bloedel Reserve celebrated significant milestones and initiatives, thanks to the support of our community and dedicated team members.
During two Member Days, we expressed our gratitude to our members, offering exclusive experiences and behind-the-scenes access. This year, we welcomed over 73,500 visitors, launching Welcome Wednesdays (pay-what-you-wish admissions) and participating in the Museums for All program to ensure accessibility for all.
In October, we hosted a week-long reunion for 12 previous Creative Residents, showcasing their talents through various events and exhibitions.
Recognizing the importance of our Pacific Northwest native forest, we partnered with Northwest Natural Resource Group to develop a Forest Management Plan, ensuring its enduring health.
In partnership with the 106 Group, the Reserve launched the Interpretive Master Plan process, enhancing storytelling and visitor experiences.
We welcomed four interns for a 9-week comprehensive summer program for students passionate about public horticulture.
Bloedel Reserve reinforced our commitment to well-being by offering various programs throughout the seasons, including Strolls for Well-Being, Grief Groups, forest bathing, and meditation.
As we reflect on the achievements of 2023 and prepare for a inspiring 2024 ahead, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has played a part in making Bloedel Reserve a sanctuary of peace, beauty, and community.
