Since the West Louisville Chess Club was started in 2016 we have impacted hundreds of young people throughout West Louisville and Title One schools. Our mission is to continue doing what we are doing i.e. teaching the beauty and the power of chess to young people (and now adults) in community centers, schools and libraries throughout the city, namely West Louisville and South Louisville. Going into 2024, we are taking our chess athletes to rated tournaments in Cincinnati, Ohio, Atlanta, Georgia and Fort Knox, Kentucky. At every single city we are visiting an educational spot such as the holocaust museum in Cincinnati, and Spelman College in Atlanta. Our traveling team members are now required to take a reading diagnostic test, and go through our chess and reading program. Why? Chess (if properly taught, as we do) enhances a young person's reading and reading enhances a young person's reading- the one feeds the other and the other feeds the one.

Who We Are

Founded by Coach Corbin, the Kentucky Chess Ambassadors is the fiscal sponsor for the West Louisville Chess Club and the Urban Louisville Chess Club. We also are the fiscal sponsor for the all-girls chess team...The Queen Nzingha Warrriors. Chess is an individual sport and a team sport that enhances critical thinking skills and therefore can contribute significantly to reading and math proficiency. This 2021 we started doing Chess & Financial Literacy workshops, after school programs and camps. It is a joining together of the two topics with critical thinking and problem solving skills as the basis for teaching young people how to think and not what to think and apply those thinking skills to making money, managing money and growing money.
