Boys & Girls Club of Madison offers essential out-of-school youth development for kids ages 6 to 18. We provide welcoming, positive places where kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs, and build supportive relationships with peers and caring adults.Our Club offers multiple programs in five core areas: Education & Career Development, Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Outcomes for kids focus on:
Academic Success: The need for academic success involves work on improving 3rd grade reading and math SOL pass rates for economically disadvantaged kids. This is accomplished through after-school homework and tutoring (Power Hour), reading and math, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math), and financial literacy. Our impact in this area is that 100% of rising 1st through 4th graders who participated in Summer Reading stayed on track with their peers.
Character & Citizenship: Volunteering during adolescence is associated with positive outcomes in academics, civic responsibility, as well as psychological and occupational well-being.We offer Service Clubs, Positive Action (Decision Making/Tobacco Use Prevention), High-Yield group learning activities that promote leadership. Our impact: Organization-wide, Club members perform 5,500 service hours annually.
Healthy Lifestyles: Club members participate in 30 to 60 minutes of daily activity to meet the recommended 60 minutes per day tot reduce the risk of obesity. The Club offers fitness and nutrition opportunities including sports leagues, cycling, fitness challenges, games, cooking, healthy eating, and mindfulness.
