Boys to Men of Greater Phoenix

Mission: We create positive transformational change for boys and the community; using group and peer mentoring that empowers boys to discover their inner resources and emotional awareness on the journey toward healthy manhood.

WHAT WE DO: We provide boys a safe space to discover, develop and step into the man they aspire to be. We use a proven group-based mentoring model in which they explore the impacts of their actions and choices, while learning integrity, accountability and compassion. Trained and vetted men model proper adult behavior. We listen with focused attention and accept and praise each boy as being okay exactly as he is. This allows the boy to accept his own gifts, while making room for him to face what is not working. Boys are supported in developing their own inner resources and gaining a better understanding of healthy emotional behavior.

HOW WE DO IT:
School Based Mentoring:
Every week, Boys to Men mentors show up at middle schools and high schools to support boys. The group-based approach gives boys a variety of male role models who tell the truth about the struggles all men face. We ask the boys what kind of man they want to be, praise them for their gifts, and support them in finding their own solutions. The boys develop deeper trust and naturally begin to support and mentor each other. In this environment, they learn to express and understand how choices and outcomes can impact their life and the lives of others.

Rite of Passage Adventure:
Men take the boys on a weekend adventure, where they are shown how to confront the immature parts of themselves in a fun and supportive environment. Surrounded by trained mentors and trained peers, they are encouraged and challenged. The experience helps them build trust with themselves, with their peers, and with adult staff.

Adventure Groups: We invite the boys to meet us out in the village
These group-mentoring events bring mentors and boys together for hikes, kayaking, bowling and other community-building opportunities. Fathers, grandfathers, brothers and other boys are invited to join in the group. These activities are fun, build trust, and are great opportunities for the boys to speak the truth and be supported without judgment.
