The Bradford County Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of Bradford County's past and the education of the public about our regional story. Recognized by Bradford County and the state of Pennsylvania as the official historical society for Bradford County, BCHS is responsible for thousands of objects and research material located on three floors of its facility at 109 Pine Street in Towanda. BCHS features two floors of museum exhibits, one floor of research library space, and a large programming space, all fit within the walls of the original Bradford County Jail (1871-1990). The Society offers an in-house programming series along with outreach programs around the county. We provide regular hours for museum tours and library research use - Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and the second Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other work we do includes:

  • Research services for those unable to visit Bradford County.

  • Group tours for all ages available by appointment including school groups, senior citizen groups, and more.

  • Live streaming of programs.

  • Wide range of local history books available for sale, most of which have been published by BCHS.

  • A quarterly full color magazine that highlights local history stories.

  • Special tours and events throughout Bradford County.

  • Repository of thousands of official courthouse records available for research.

  • County-wide historical marker program.

  • State recognized Century Farm, Home and Building program.

Your support of the Bradford County Historical Society makes it possible for us to teach current and future generations about their local story, helping them develop an appreciation for Bradford County history.
