Brass City Charter School

In the spring of 2013, a group of inspired Waterbury educators and citizens applied to the State of Connecticut for a charter to open a school that would serve Waterbury's children in grades Pre-K through 8. Their petition was successful and Brass City Charter School opened its doors that fall to 114 students in grades Pre-K through 1 with plans to add a grade a year until it was fully rolled out. Currently BCCS serves 400 students. The goal of maintaining high expectations for students has resulted in students consistently and significantly outperforming the district and surpassing state averages. Charter schools receive less funding than district schools and therefore must rely on the support of their friends in the broader community to provide their students the outstanding educational opportunity that they deserve.
