The yearly giveSTL fundraising event is critical to Broken and Beautiful as we continue our mission to share Christ's love with incarcerated women, then walk with them as they embrace God's truth for their life.  Since we implemented our after-prison groups, counseling and discipleship programs last year, we've experienced exponential growth.  The ladies we know from prison are continuing with our ministry after release as they turn to Christ for direction and healing in their life.   They are getting jobs, growing their faith and are sharing God's truth and redemptive power with others who have walked in their shoes. We've witnessed as they are reunited with their children and families. Recently we co-sponsored the Harmony of Healing event where thirty of these ladies corporately worshiped and shared the story of their changed life.  The impact they are having goes well beyond this ministry and reaches those who want to know how God's redeeming grace and love can change their life.

The financial needs for Broken and Beautiful centers around our re-entry support for women after they leave prison. They key to successful re-entry support is to develop a relationship with the ladies in prison and then continue with a supportive, trusted relationship after release. Broken and Beautiful is unique in this way as we offer Christian services and classes each week in both the Missouri women's prisons. We also offer counseling and home planning support to the ladies before release. After release from prison, we provide counseling, peer support to address stress and trauma related issues.  We surround the ladies with our Christian based instruction that includes a six-month discipleship program, weekly Bible study, Christian based recovery education, and participation in our regional communities. This continued relationship with the ladies is producing amazing results, with over 92% remaining drug free and positive influences in their communities.  But the number of ladies we support is rapidly growing, with around ninety are working with us now and many more are on the way.

Our biggest financial need is Christian-based counseling and peer support in-prison and after release.  This service is critical as it addresses behavioral issues associated with PTSD, BPD, anxiety, and depression.  Christian counseling along with our discipleship program and education often reduces or removes our client’s dependency on medication.  Most of our ladies who are leading our after-release peer support and leadership have dealt with these mental health challenges and are now experiencing a changed lifestyle.

Our costs associated with counseling and peer support are:

  • $45 for one month of after-release peer support
  • $100 per client for in-prison counseling preparing for release (2 sessions)
  • $350 per client for after-release counseling and peer support for one month
  • $2,550 for an entire year of aftercare services

Our goal for this year's GiveSTL is $7,000.  This will cover about one-month of our expenses with most of that supporting the ladies counseling and after-release programming.  Would you consider contributing to Broken and Beautiful today? Your support will enable us to continue our mission of bringing hope and transformation to women in prison then walk with them after release.
