INTERRUPTING GENERATIONAL POVERY FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS

Since 1966, Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County (CAP) has been advancing prosperity throughout Lancaster County by activating community, mobilizing resources, and amplifying partnership to ensure everyone thrives. Through 10 different programs, we walk alongside folks in the Lancaster community living with low income in providing valuable, person-centered resources to alleviate crisis, promote stability, and encourage dreaming. 

Our programs meet folks exactly where they are at every age and place in life, and include Utility Assistance; WIC (Women, Infants, and Children); Thrive to Five (Head Start, Early Head Start, and Pre-K Counts); Food Distribution; Crispus Attucks Community Center; Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County (DVS); RISE (Resilience. Inspiration. Strength. Empowerment.); the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC); Nutrition Education; and Senior Centers.

Local community leaders who founded CAP were part of the larger national consensus that held that "poverty was unacceptable, and poverty could and should be eradicated." We carry on this philosophy today in our work to ensure everyone coming to CAP is connected with vital resources that align with their unique needs on their prosperity journey.

The Community Action Partnership is Lancaster County’s largest anti-poverty organization and boasts a service profile that interrupts inter-generational poverty with programs that assist families at every age and place in life.

Knowing that poverty is complex and its contributing factors vary, CAP is committed to creating innovative, person-centered initiatives, including social enterprise businesses, to augment our many long-standing and successful anti-poverty programs that advance the social and economic mobility of families.
