CASA for Kids of East Texas (Serving Smith, Wood, and Van Zandt Counties)

A nonprofit organization

Serving Smith, Wood, and Van Zandt Counties, CASA for Kids of East Texas exists to make life-changing differences for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. We advocate for their best interests when they need it most: during some of the most uncertain and vulnerable moments of their lives.

When children are removed from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) for their safety, CASA becomes a consistent, trusted presence advocating exclusively for the child’s best interests within the family court system. CASA's work means real, lasting empact in a child’s life.

In 2025, CASA for Kids of East Texas served nearly 500 children. Through one-on-one advocacy, CASA ensures that both temporary and permanent placements are safe and appropriate. Advocates monitor how children are doing emotionally, physically, and academically; ensure they receive proper medical, dental, mental health, and educational care; and work toward family reunification whenever it is safe to do so. CASA advocates also help meet children’s basic and developmental needs such as clothing that fits, food, hygiene items, school supplies, normal childhood experiences, and connections to family and community. Every child deserves to be safe, supported, and heard.
