Castleton Festival

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Castleton is to perpetuate and expand the spirit of the late Maestro Lorin Maazel whose artistic and pedagogical goals were embodied in his internationally acclaimed Castleton Festival. Led by renowned actress and musician Dietlinde Turban Maazel, CEO & Artistic Director, Castleton is now a year-round integrative Artist Retreat offering residencies at the remote bucolic Castleton Farms. In line with Maestro Maazel’s ethos, Artists are proactively encouraged to take risks and to challenge their artistic boundaries, furthering their collaborative work and artistic growth.

The opportunity to fully immerse in the Maestro’s Legacy, his home, his music library, and his composing studio, together with performing in the Theatre House and experiencing the deep connection to nature, imbues the artists with inspiration. The holistic approach to education highlights the significance of integrity, building on a continuum of substance and excellence, enhancing empathy and the spirit of community beyond the Arts.

With its original motto reaffirmed, the Castleton’s Mission continues:

Nurturing young talents, fostering the arts, and reclaiming the human spirit through integrative mentoring, world-class performances and building of communities.
