The Christ Episcopal Community Educational Enrichment Program (CEEP) is a four-week summer program for 3rd-6th graders of all faiths and backgrounds. It addresses the academic, enrichment, and life-skills needs of children who are academically capable but economically challenged without access to programs that help maintain and increase their learned skills through the summer months. CEEP provides academics taught by certified teachers, enriching hands-on experiences, and one-on-one academic support by qualified volunteers in a nurturing, safe atmosphere. Throughout the program, the children are encouraged to stretch themselves academically, physically, and creatively through programs such as art, music, character development, conflict resolution, outdoor activities, swimming, guest speakers, and field trips. Breakfast and lunch are served each day, and bus transportation is provided for students who live within the Covington city limits.
CEEP is Christ Episcopal Church's largest outreach ministry, and requires over $35,000, with many of our additional costs offset by our outstanding volunteers. We rely on the generous donations of our parishioners and individuals like you to sponsor and underwrite this important community program.
SIERRA
Sierra Crump attended CEEP as a child many years ago, and later, as a volunteer. As an adult, she returned during the program to share her testimony of the impact CEEP had on her life as a camper and volunteer, and the blessing it was for her mother, at that time in their lives, to provide an opportunity she would otherwise not have been able to afford. Sierra shared how her experiences at CEEP influenced her interest and success in theater and communication. Sierra is a graduate of Covington High School and Louisiana State University, and is now the director of research for the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.
ELIZABETH
Elizabeth will be entering seventh grade this fall. When she came to CEEP in third grade, her mother, an alcoholic, was unable to take care of Elizabeth and had put her life at risk. Her father was dying of pancreatic cancer and passed away while she was attending CEEP. Elizabeth was distraught with grief, exhibiting all the signs of a traumatized child dealing with these tremendous losses in her life. Today she is happy and well-adjusted, and making great strides in her schoolwork. She says that CEEP has brought her closer to God, and she thanks Him every day for the many gifts she has received including close friendships developed at CEEP. Elizabeth plans to be a volunteer camp counselor when she is older to "give back to the program that has given so much to her."
MARIYAH
Mariyah is in fourth grade. When she first came to CEEP she would not swim and was extremely uneasy about learning how. After volunteers from the Pelican Athletic Swim team joined us, Mariyah tried but was still quite apprehensive about the whole experience. She overcame her fears, learned from her instructors, and Mariyah was so proud of her accomplishment that on our last swim day, she wanted to show how far she had come, and demonstrated her new ability as a confident swimmer. It's not just about academics, but about life skills!
"Christ Church is an exceptional expression of the love, care, and community in the body of Christ. Christ Church had the single greatest impact on my life and there isn't anything that I can compare it to. It is well worth your time to get to know, love, and become a part of the amazing community of Christ Church." - Daniel Ciufi
"Genuine people, where everyone is family. A variety of worship styles to meet the needs of each person. They create a sacred space that brings faith, hope, and love into the place we worship." - Stephen Bryant
