Citizens' Environmental Coalition

The Citizens' Environmental Coalition's (CEC) mission is to foster dialogue, education, and collaboration on environmental issues in the Houston/Gulf Coast Region. This has been accomplished through creation of prominent local publications, distribution of environmental resources, contributions to engagement and education programs, and hosting of signature community events.

Since 1971, CEC has worked diligently to connect Houston's environmental community. Made up of approximately 150 member organizations and individuals, the CEC is proud to represent a diverse group of nonprofit organizations, governmental bodies, concerned community members, and activists. Through CEC's range of programs, member organizations connect with each other and coordinate their efforts, furthering CEC's mission and ensuring an efficient and collaborative environmental community. This mission has been accomplished through distributing environmental resources, hosting signature community events, conducting research on environmental legislative issues, and contributing to engagement and enrichment programs. Among the CEC's signature programs are the Earth Day Houston celebration in partnership with Discovery Green Conservancy, the Green Films Program, the Greater Houston Environmental Summit, and the highly regarded weekly e-newsletter. This newsletter reaches nearly 5,000 subscribers and includes a comprehensive list of resources, including all environmental events and green jobs across the region. To date, no other resource like this exists in the Greater Houston Area.
