Charles Houston Advisory Council

A nonprofit organization

The Charles Houston Advisory Council is a 501c3 made up of a group of community volunteers trying to raise $70000 by June 2017 to update an existing outdated game room in the Charles Houston Recreation Center and begin fulfilling our mission by creating a new and revitalized teen center that give local youths a dedicated place to be safe, have fun, learn and grow.  As of February 2017 we have raised close to $50,000 but we still need another $20,000 to complete the project.

Our Vision & Goals

The Advisory Council recognizes the challenges faced by local youth and sees the need to create a dedicated space where teens can be safe, have fun, learn and grow. The Charles Houston Rec Center plays an important role but the facility does not provide space that will attract and retain teens. We need to move youth off the street and into a safe, self-managed environment for socializing and learning to alter their destiny.

Our goals

  • Engage teens in creating and managing success through leadership and personal development.
  • Engage teens, families, and schools to invest in teen success through achievement, life-skill building, and employment.
  • Build physically and emotionally healthy teens via diverse recreational activities.
  • Create opportunities for community investment and engagement to support sustainability.

Braddock Community Youth Programs Fundraiser

At the heart of Alexandria's vibrant Parker-Gray neighborhood stands a promise—a promise to nurture our community's most precious resource: our youth. The Charles Houston Advisory Council invites you to join us in fulfilling this promise by supporting our Braddock Community Youth Programs.

Your donation isn't just a contribution—it's an investment in our collective future.

Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Our youth programs provide essential opportunities for young people in the Braddock community through:

  • Enriching after-school events that develop critical thinking and creativity
  • Educational field trips that expand horizons beyond classroom walls
  • Cultural celebrations that honor our rich community heritage
  • Leadership retreats that build confidence and character

Why Your Support Matters

Every dollar you contribute directly impacts a child's life in our community. Your generosity helps create safe, structured environments where young people can discover their talents, build meaningful relationships, and develop into confident, capable adults who will lead our community forward.

When you support Braddock youth programs, you're not just funding activities—you're opening doors of opportunity.

Meet Our Dedicated Volunteer Leadership

Our work is led by three passionate community volunteers who donate their time and talents:

  • Tomashia Cornitcher - A devoted mother of three and passionate parent advocate who believes in the power of neighborhood collaboration.

  • Angel Cummings - A dedicated mother of two who works tirelessly to ensure all children have access to enriching opportunities.

  • Noah Komnick - A small business owner and retired U.S. Marine officer who channels his leadership experience into community building.

Make Your Impact Today

Your financial contribution, regardless of size, makes a meaningful difference. Together, we can ensure that every young person in the Braddock community has access to programs that inspire growth, learning, and connection.
