Christmas in Action helps low-income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners in Wichita County make necessary repairs to their homes such as roofing, plumbing, electrical, insulation, and ramps. They are either physically or financially able to make these repairs themselves.   Our elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners are a forgotten generation.  

Imagine your roof leaking into your bedroom each time it rains, or your sewer lines backing up or not having hot water.  How would you repair these costs? Dip into your saving, ask a family member, or take out a loan.  Our recipients receive an income on average of $700 dollars a month. This averaged income would need to cover all bills associated with homeownership; not to mention utilities, medications and food. This does not leave much residual income for repair costs to their homes.  These repairs such as roofing, plumbing, electrical, insulation, ramp and many more repairs go by the wayside and instead only get worse. 

This is where Christmas in Action comes in.  We help the homeowners in Wichita County with such repairs so that they can continue to live in their home; safer, warmer and with independence which is where they want to be HOME! Your donations of any amount small or large; $1 or $5000 help so many in our community.  This allows them to have peace of mind, pride in their homes and the faith and support to know that they are not alone or forgotten.

Our volunteers are beginning to come back from the Covid pandemic. Still very slow but what a blessing. Volunteers complete minor repairs such as painting, installing doors, ramps, railings, grab bars and any number of minor repairs for our Wichita County homeowners.

We are "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" Please consider donating to Christmas in Action this year during Texoma Gives. Recipients could be family members, neighbors and friends down the street. Our baby boomers are aging out and the needs outweigh the resources. 

Who We Are

Imagine your lying in your bed and it begins to rain and rain drops start falling on you while you sleep. Imagine going without hot water or your plumbing being shut off because of damaged lines. Imagine your electrical breaker box being knocked out by lightening during a storm. How would you repair these items? Would you dip into your savings, would you put it on a credit card or would you go to the bank for a small loan? Our homeowners have no savings and do not have these options. They live on social security or disability benefits or small pensions. The average income is $700 a month and this covers everything; housing, repairs, food, utilities and medication. They are either financially or physically unable to do the work themselves.

This is where you and Christmas in Action can help. Christmas in Action rehabilitates the homes of low income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners so that they may continue to live safe, warm and with independence in their homes. Home is where they want to be. It is where they feel safe.

Founded in Midland, Texas in 1972, as Christmas in April, when Bobby Trimble noticed that a growing number of his neighbors needed help maintaining their homes. Low-income elderly and disabled people in particular could no longer afford to repair their homes or they did not have the physical ability to do self-help home repairs. Bobby recruited volunteers from the community to help make the needed repairs. Since then the last Saturday of April each year developed into “Project Day.”
Due to Bobby Trimble and Mary Ward's efforts, Christmas in April, Wichita County, Texas Inc. was formed in 1983. In 2004, Christmas in April became Christmas in Action. Over the years in Wichita County, over 4252 homes have been repaired.
