Christopher Homes, the housing agency of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, has been serving the low income elderly population for more than 50 years. Today, the agency manages 21 HUD-subsidized apartment complexes that house the elderly and those with physical disabilities in nearly 2,500 apartments. Our ministry offers not only affordable housing but a community where our residents can thrive socially, intellectually and spiritually and experience quality of life sets us apart from other housing programs in New Orleans.

Many seniors in our local community are underserved in terms of available housing, food security, medical services and social connectedness – all of which can impact their overall health and well-being. Christopher Homes is not just a housing agency, but a ministry that is committed to finding ways and means to go beyond what is federally funded and offer more comprehensive services to our residents. We collaborate with a network of partners and other agencies of the Archdiocese to offer our residents the services they need to age in place.

Through our community partnerships we are able to feed many of the residents in our care. The meal provided is sometimes the only meal some of our seniors receive.

Through the integration of our service coordination division, we have a team of representatives who connect our residents with resources to assist them with living successfully in their later years. Our service coordinators are advocates and case managers for our residents in regard to navigating insurance, medical, mental health and rehabilitative needs. They seek out programs that educate residents on variety of topics, such as health, technology, and exercise. In one of our service coordinator’s own words, their job covers “anything and everything needed by a resident to keep them living independently and with dignity.”

Contributions from iGiveCatholic assist Christopher Homes with providing meals to our residents as well as basic needs, such as clothing and furniture.
